Bonaire is a very small , special entity of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in the South of the Caribbean, located not far from Venezuela, Aruba and Curacao. It is a mainly flat coral island, covered in great parts by cacti and scrub. But, combined with a partly rocky and impressive coastline, wetlands and a beautiful lake populated with red flamingos, Bonaire's nature has a particular caracter which is an attraction in itself. A big part of the island is a protected national park, and the sea around Bonaire is a seriously protected marine park. If you want to escape from mass tourism, Bonaire is certainly a good choice, since it offers a quiet and nature oriented lifestyle.

As for beaches, Bonaire doesn't have a large amount of them, but the existing ones are very beautiful: White sands, and very calm turquoise water offer quite enough beach life for those interested in Bonaire. And, even if you don't want to discover the island's beautiful marine life with diving equipment, you can still enjoy snorkeling, since most of the reefs are located very near the beach.

Bonaire has a nice climate, just windy enough so you can enjoy the tropical sun without it getting to hot and humid.

Souvenirs and especially dive gear can be bought in shops of its small and calm capital. There are quite a lot of hotels in Bonaire, considering the size of the island. Many of them have a dive shop and are mainly booked by divers. There are also apartments and bungalows for rent. Some hotels are really top class.
